Pratt Institute - Fall 2024 - Process & Production
For this project, I was tasked with designing three unique currency bills of different values. Rather than redesigning existing currency, I aimed to leverage this opportunity to push the boundaries of my creativity. Upon relocating to New York, I envisioned creating currency for the city's vermin and pests. Drawing inspiration from traditional American dollar bills, I conceptualized a narrative where these creatures form a coalition to establish their own form of capital, mimicking human currency.
I incorporated classic portraiture of political figures on the bill's front to reflect this idea,  like American currency. Since the vermin would utilize items found in the trash to create their currency, I employed a hands-on approach by hand-painting the designs on discarded materials. Additionally, I used a ransom note technique by cutting out letters from magazines to compose the type. I found this process rewarding because I really value working with my hands whenever I get the chance.
